Hell as Self-Chosen Separation: Reconsidering Divine Judgment

The mainstream understanding of Hell is usually presented in a very rigid form: God judges people, condemns them, and sends them into everlasting punishment against their will. Hell, in this picture, functions as a kind of divine prison where the condemned are forcefully confined forever. The imagery resembles earthly courts of law. A judge pronounces sentence, officers seize the criminal, and the criminal is dragged away to punishment.

Demons, Attention, and Responsibility: A Practical Reframing

There is a simple but demanding starting point: we do not actually know what demons are in any mechanistic sense. Scripture affirms their reality, but it does not provide a technical “microscope” for their nature. Attempts to build detailed theories from encounters tend to circle back on themselves, reinforcing what the interpreter already believes. If that is so, then progress begins not by multiplying explanations, but by clearing them—refusing to treat demonic encounters as a source of new, objective knowledge about demons themselves.

The Ever-Present God

Brothers and sisters,

We have misunderstood suffering.

We have built an entire theology on a false premise — the premise that God is somewhere else.

We imagine Him distant. Watching. Waiting. Deciding whether to intervene. We assume that if we cry louder, sacrifice harder, intensify enough — perhaps He will step in.

But what if that assumption is the very root of our misery?

And yet, in another place, he tells us to pray persistently — to knock, to ask, to seek, and not to give up.

And like many masters, he struggled with anger. Who does not?

One day he said to himself, “I cannot find peace within my own dominion. I will go to the Creator of all things—to my God—and ask for help.”
So he went, prostrated himself, and prayed,

God, the Most Merciful, looked upon him with love and gave him a gift: a herd of cows.

for the milk they produced was mercy itself.

By the time their standards appeared on the hills, by the time the dust of their marching darkened the horizon, something in Jerusalem had long stopped breathing. The streets were loud, frantic, full of shouting and prayers and arguments—but none of it was life. It was the noise of a body after the spirit has left it.

Do Not Become the Carcass

When Jesus says, “Where the carcass is, there the vultures gather,” it sounds strange to modern ears. It sounds dark, even cruel. Many people hear it as a gloomy proverb about death being inevitable, or as a poetic way of saying that bad things attract bad things. But Jesus is not being poetic here, and he is not offering a riddle to be admired. He is warning people in the clearest language he can use.

Jesus is not talking about birds. He is talking about responsibility.
