Why Jesus Rejoices: Littleness Is Not a Strategy but His Home

1. Jesus Does Not “Endure” Littleness—He Belongs to It

Many readers unconsciously assume a two-stage Christology:

  1. Jesus temporarily becomes humble, poor, dependent, and little
  2. In the end, he will reveal himself as the opposite—majestic, dominant, overwhelming

Under this assumption, humility is a means, not an essence.
Littleness is instrumental, not native.

My reading exposes how deeply foreign this is to Luke’s Jesus.

Divorce as the Sin of Stumbling Others

Among Jesus’ most challenging moral teachings stands His severe word against divorce: “Whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” These lines, often read through modern eyes as legalistic or punitive, have perplexed commentators for centuries. Many explanations focus on technical definitions of adultery, or on marriage as a sanctified bond, but they struggle to uncover why Jesus frames the consequences of divorce in such stark relational terms.

1. The Paradox of Place

In every miracle of Jesus, there is not only the act of healing but also the mystery of where it happens. If divine healing is a causal relocation—a movement of a person into a line of reality where the illness never occurred—then logically the healed person should never again appear in the place of the sick. Yet Scripture repeatedly shows the opposite.

The Damascus vision is one of the most profound moments in sacred history. In it, Jesus speaks from the glory of heaven to a man who believes himself to be defending the honor of God. “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” (Acts 9:4).
Tradition interprets this as Jesus identifying Himself with His followers — that to persecute them is to persecute Him. Yet this explanation does not exhaust the mystery. Saul’s persecution was not aimed at a mere social group; it was a war against a divine paradox he could not bear: that the Messiah of Israel had been crucified.

The Creed of the Familiar and the Distant

We believe in the One who speaks from within and from beyond,
whose Word is light both near and far.
He comes as neighbor and as Lord,
as whisper in the heart and thunder on the mountain.

We believe that closeness demands humility,
for the nearer we stand to the flame, the lower we must bow.
Nazareth saw the fire and called it ordinary;
yet the same fire burns in the stranger’s lamp.

I. Introduction

The episode of Jesus’ rejection in Nazareth (Luke 4:16-30; Mark 6:1-6; Matthew 13:53-58) has long been read as an example of stubborn unbelief. Yet, upon closer reading, the text reveals something subtler and far more profound: the tension between intimacy and reverence, between familiarity and humility.
The Nazarenes’ so-called “unbelief” was not disbelief in divine power — it was disbelief in divine humility.

The Many Comings of the Unrecognized Christ

1. The Paradox of the Unseen Presence

The question, “What if Jesus has already come many times and found no one with faith?”, does not challenge the promise of His return; it deepens it.
It suggests that divine arrival is not delayed by heaven but resisted by earth. Humanity waits for a spectacle of clouds and trumpets, while God continually enters through the unnoticed doorways of daily life.
